You have limited lives, cannot save (playable only for a single session), and there is no in-game map. Old School mode is designed to be a challenge. You get unlimited lives, access to an in-game map (which I honestly found rather unhelpful), and you can save your game to pick up later wherever you leave off. Should you not get this by the end of your first playthrough, find someplace where you can die quickly and just suicide repeatedly until it pops.Īdventure mode is where you'll be spending the bulk of your time. Most rooms with moving parts are easily gotten through based on the way things move as you initially enter. Rooms will reset when you leave and reenter, which may be necessary if you make a mistake with a puzzle. When you find yourself at a part that causes multiple deaths, I suggest playing through it several times until you can do it consistently as practice for your old school run. Since you have unlimited lives (in adventure mode, anyway), you can usually brute force your way through tricky parts with continual deaths until you make it past. This should restart you as if you had just entered the room (or immediately before the start of the minigame or action sequence). Therefore, you can usually dashboard ( ), force quit (select Lumo, press, then choose "quit"), relaunch the game, and reload your save if you mess up on an achievement requirement. The game generally will not autosave until you exit a room, complete/fail a minigame, or complete an action sequence. If you progress past a "point of no return" and miss a collectible, you will not be able to complete that collectible achievement without starting a new playthrough. Auto saving is done from room to room and save files cannot be copied, so pay close attention to collectible numbers as you progress so you don't miss any. The game allows for some exploration as you progress, but you will periodically reach points that prevent backtracking, effectively cutting you off from collectibles found prior to that point.
